January, 2004, I wrote this in my journal after seeing a show on Bowie’s Reality tour:
“There’s just something about Bowie. The concert made me so happy — it was as if the universe said, ‘You’ve been working hard. Let’s give you a Bowie show.'”
At the time, it pulled me out of a funk.
In January 2013, Bowie came back. Quietly, powerfully, and without ego. Reminding us, yet again, that music need not be mere distraction. It can be about ways of seeing.
There seems to be no better clip to end on. David Bowie, slow dancing with the great Tina Turner, in a performance that exudes mutual respect and affection. Indeed, everyone will be all right, tonight.
