My first thought watching this — having no idea if there’s a back story or not — is that as much as David Bowie tried to convince people he was gay in the’70s, he was trying to convince people was straight in the 80s. It seems beyond brilliant, only something David Bowie could pull off.

When the neurotic rock star character is introduced, it seems clear. Again, it’s a character. The powder-blue-suit-wearing-window-washer is a character. The rock star is a character. And none of it is real.
