If you watch the old Time Will Crawl video — this clip — you can easily be distracted by the bizarre and disjointed acrobatics. Part of this may have been deliberate at the time; part of it may be the result of the fact that the scenes are just Glass Spider tour rehearsal footage, and likely don’t have a logical sequence.
The song itself, however, doesn’t have a logical sequence — it’s a collection of images, old-style nuclear holocaust images, of what we were taught to be afraid in the 80s — that wildlife would be mutated and death would be everywhere. Bowie re-recorded (or was it simply remixed? I don’t know) this song for an EP giveaway in 2008. Part of me prefers that version, but it’s the original that still holds space in my memory.
